Raga-Mala 40th Anniversary Celebrations

Kids Program:

Carnatic Violin by Vanshika Mokamati

Vanshika had her basic training in Carnatic music from her mom. Upon seeing her interested her parents enrolled her into piano lessons in Western discipline at the age of 5, currently preparing for her Level 5 exams. Her training for Carnatic Violin started in 2018 and is currently being trained under Vid. Sri Arunachala Karthik (Disciple of Padma Sri Padma Bhushan Ms. Gopalakrishnan – one of the Trinity of Carnatic Violin) in Parur Bani. She is also taking Carnatic vocal training with Smt Uma Prakash (Chinmaya Sisters) and has been exploring Western violin for the past one year with Allan Nelson.

Hindustani Vocal by Neil Mushrif

Neil Mushrif is 7 years old. He lives in Edmonton AB, and he is in Grade 2 at Windsor Park School. He started learning music when he was 4. Currently, he is learning Hindustani classical vocal from Shri. Subash Giri in Edmonton and his Guru for Harmonium is Shri. Milind Kulkarni from Pune, India. His favorite classical singers are Late Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande and Vidushi Smt. Kaushiki Chakraborty ji. In addition to Hindustani classical, Neil also likes Naatya-sangeet. Naatya-Sangeet is a unique musical theatre that depicts the story in musical form and is extremely popular in the state of Maharashtra. Neil and his sister Ananyaa also have their YouTube channel, with the name “Ananyaa and Neil”.

Carnatic Vocal Group

Darsh Ganesh, Tarun Harish, Sherya Sudharshan, Aditya Sudharshan, Sricharan Harish and Diksha Ganesh students of Smt. Sunantha Harish. They have been under her guidance for a few years now. The children have performed in various group events across Edmonton.

Kathak Dance Recital by Ananyaa Mushrif

Ananyaa Mushrif is 12 years old. She lives in Edmonton and is in grade 7 at Crestwood School. She started learning Kathak at the age of 6 in the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society. From 2018 – 2020, she was the student of Mrs. Usha Gupta ji. From 2020 onwards, she will continue her Kathak training under the able guidance of Mrs. Sudeshna Maulik from Montreal. She is also learning Tabla from Shri. Bhuyash Neupane. Ananyaa has recently passed the level 4 Kathak Exam conducted by Pandit Ram Sahai Sangeet Vidyalaya in the UK with the highest grade of Distinction and has given multiple solo Kathak performances.

Carnatic Vocal Concert by Smt. Sunantha Harish & Team

Sunantha Harish started learning music at a young age under Guru Smt Janaki Venugopalan and after moving to Edmonton she started taking advanced lessons from Smt Jayshri Prakash and is currently pursuing under Vidwan. B.Ananthakrishnan (grandson of renowned Violin Vidwan, Late V.K. Venkata Ramanujam Iyengar). She will be accompanied by Mukund Krishnan on the violin.
