Vidushi Sanhita Nandi

Vidushi Sanhita Nandi has rightly established herself as a leading exponent of Khayal, earning high acclaim from discerning critics and enthusiastic audiences on an international scale. Sanhita has developed a distinctive singing style based on firm grounding of traditional training (or taleem), combining pure lyricism with impeccable technique. She learned under the skilled and experienced tutelage of the Late Pandit A. Kanan from ITC Sangeet research academy. To further enrich her repository of Kirana Lineage and traditional compositions, Sanhita continues to get trained under the able guidance of Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan emphasizing permutations of “Khandmeru”.She also got guidance under Pandit Vinayak Torvi for few years in the Kirana Gharana style.

Her sonorous voice soaked in her Kirana roots render great depth and substance to her supremely soulful Gayaki. The heart of her music is the slow, leisurely development of Raag Bhava in Merukhand style in the Ati vilambit tempo. As the “badhat” gets slowly ornamented in the choicest pearls of melodic variations extreme care is taken not to disrupt the Raag Bhava even in faster tempo. She builds the citadel of her Khayal on the firm foundations of Kirana Gharana and erects the pillars of original creativity with her profound individuality that she has carefully nurtured. Sanhita Nandi has been invited in India and abroad (North America and Europe) at prime musicfestivals and concerts. She has received great recognition for her performances in India’s all major prime music festivals.
